When Injury Leads to Debt

July 8, 2024

Aaliyah, at 35, had always prided herself on her independence, juggling three jobs. Divorced and single, she navigated life with determination, working hard to make ends meet.

However, a few months ago, Aaliyah injured her back on the job. The pain forced her onto work cover, leaving her without her regular income for the past five months. Financial strain began to mount as the work cover payments fell short of her usual earnings. Unable to sustain the physical demands, she reluctantly had to give up one of her other jobs, worsening her financial challenges.

Managing to keep up with her rent was all she could afford at this stage, but utility bills started piling up, overdue electricity and unpaid water bills added to her worries. With her rent set to increase by the end of July, Aaliyah faced mounting financial strain.

To ease her financial burden, Aaliyah decided she needed a housemate to split household costs. However, she lacked the funds to furnish the spare bedroom intended for her new housemate.

Desperate for assistance, Aaliyah reached out to NZF to determine her Zakat eligibility. Following an assessment, she was found to be eligible.

Your Zakat became her lifeline, helping Aaliyah pay off her overdue bills and purchase necessary furniture to make her home move-in ready for a new housemate. This support allowed her to focus on recovering from her back injury without the constant stress of financial instability.
