The Gaza Assistance Program

This program aims to facilitate the seamless settlement and integration of newly arrived Muslim families from Gaza. These families will be eligible for Zakat under the Fuqarah and/or ibn Sabeel Categories as per the Qur’an (Surah Al-Taubah 9:60)

Program Objectives:

  • Provide a one-off Settlement Assistance payment for essential needs upon first arriving in Australia.

Who is this program for?

This program is for Palestinians in Australia on Visitor Visas (Subclass 600). Sponsors of individuals arriving from Gaza can apply online through this page or by calling our hotline at 1300 663 729 upon the families’ arrival in Australia. Applications require only basic details, including family composition, ages of individuals, and sponsorship information, to process the initial payment.

How is NZF helping those coming from Gaza?

We are assisting applicants Australia wide.

One-Off Settlement Payment When They Arrive in Australia

Upon arrival, families from Gaza receive a one-off Settlement Assistance payment to cover essential needs. This immediate support helps them stabilise during the critical first phase of settlement, allowing them to focus on healing from trauma and beginning their integration into Australian life.

Working With Partner Organisations With Integration to Australia

NZF works closely with partner organisations and other service providers, to ensure families receive holistic support.

What have we been delivering since November 2023

When families from Gaza began arriving in Australia from November 2023 onward, the need was far greater than anyone initially anticipated. As visas were granted and families landed with little more than basic essentials, NZF stepped in to provide immediate and ongoing support

Our support included:

  • One-off Settlement Assistance to help families meet essential needs upon arrival.
  • Six months of ongoing financial support to help cover basic living expenses during the critical early settlement phase.
  • Practical and emotional support that allowed families to stabilise, heal from trauma, and begin rebuilding their lives in Australia.
  • Guidance for sponsors, helping them uphold dignity and responsibility while supporting the families they welcomed.
  • Collaboration with key stakeholders including schools, community groups, government agencies, and NGOs to ensure holistic and culturally sensitive care.

Through this coordinated response, NZF helped ease the transition for families uprooted from conflict, ensuring they were supported with dignity as they began their new chapter in Australia.
