Sadaqah
Give Sadaqah - keep the Zakat ecosystem running
NZF is a Zakat organisation. Every dollar of Zakat you pay goes strictly to 8 Zakat eligible categories as per the Quran.
Your Sadaqah is what makes that possible - funding the operations, team, systems, and infrastructure that implement the pillar of Zakat.
Where your Sadaqah goes
We are transparent about how Sadaqah is used at NZF. Here is how it is allocated.
Technology and systems
This website, the platforms that process applications, verify eligibility, manage donor records, and generate the tax receipts and impact reports our community relies on.
Offices and operations
Rent, utilities, legal, accounting, and compliance - the foundations that keep a registered charity in good standing and operating with integrity.
Staff who are not part of the Al-‘Amilina ‘Alayha (Zakat Administrators) category
Our technology team, communications staff, finance and compliance team, and organisational leadership are not Zakat administrators and therefore cannot be paid from Zakat funds. Sadaqah is what pays these salaries and keeps the broader organisation running.
Program events and participant support
Activities, workshops, gifts, and practical costs that are required to run our programs - ensuring meaningful experiences for participants.
Exceptional community cases
For situations where someone is in genuine hardship but outside Zakat eligibility, such as non-Muslims seeking emergency assistance, or borderline cases where Zakat cannot apply. See below for details.
Sadaqah Jariah - give once, benefit always
If you want your Sadaqah to continue generating reward long after you give, then invest in NZF's mission. The work you support will enable NZF's critical work in establishing the benefits of Zakat in our community to continue indefinitely, insha Allah.
FAQs
Sadaqah in Islam refers to voluntary charity given for the sake of Allah, not limited to material wealth but including actions, kindness, and support for others.
Sadaqah Jariah is one of the most rewarding acts in Islam, offering ongoing benefits to both the giver and the recipient. It is a form of Sadaqah that continues to bring blessings even after a person has passed away.
Unlike Zakat, Sadaqah is not income / asset based or rule-based giving. Any charity other than the annual Zakat falls under Sadaqah. Therefore, how much Sadaqah to give from salary or your income is a personal choice and depends on your ability and choice.
Zakat al-Mal (commonly called 'Zakat') is one of the five pillars in Islam, an obligation ordained by our Creator. It is due when a Muslims wealth reaches the nisab (threshold) amount. It is paid annually on their Zakat anniversary. Muslims are required to pay 2.5% from their Zakatable wealth.
Zakat al-Fitr is given by the head of the household for each member of the family, before the Eid al-Fitr prayer. All Muslims must give Zakat al-Fitr regardless of their age or financial status, unless they themselves do not have the means to do so, Hence, they could be eligible to receive Zakat ul-Fitr or Zakat themselves.
Sadaqah is voluntary donations, and there is no limit on how much you can pay or when you pay.
No, this doesn't diminish your rewards; your donation has gone to those in need. Claiming it back on your taxes simply means you can choose to re-donate and continue supporting those in need or use it for your own needs.
Stripe charges us 1.4% of your donation + A$0.30 for domestic cards. For e.g. if you donated $5 as Sadaqah, we receive $4.63. You have the option to pay the additional transaction fee on top of the donation amount or opt out, so we take the transaction fee out of your donation.
