Rebuilding After Redundancy
Farrah spent years building her career in design. She worked hard, gained experience, and steadily progressed in her field. She was employed full-time and financially independent. Like many Australians, she assumed that if she continued working hard, stability would follow.
Then her position was made redundant.
The redundancy payout helped initially, but it did not last. Rent still needed to be paid. Utility bills continued arriving. Groceries became more expensive. Before long, Farrah found herself relying on Centrelink while searching for a pathway back into employment.
Rather than remaining unemployed, she made a decision to retrain. She enrolled in a professional digital design course to update her skills and improve her job prospects in an increasingly competitive market.
The course costs approximately $300 per month.
It may not sound like much, but when Centrelink becomes your only source of income, every dollar matters.
Farrah's husband is also unemployed. Together, they have no employment income coming into the household. Their Centrelink payments are stretched across rent, utilities, groceries, transport, and other everyday expenses. There is rarely anything left over.
Yet the course fees continue to be deducted every month.
Farrah knows that completing the course gives her the best chance of returning to work and rebuilding her financial independence. But continuing her studies while meeting basic living expenses has become increasingly difficult.
She found herself in a position she never expected to be in.
"I have always worked and supported myself," she explained. "I'm trying to improve my situation and get back into employment, but I'm struggling to keep up with everyday expenses."
Farrah is not avoiding responsibility. She is actively investing in her future and doing everything she can to improve her circumstances. What she needs is temporary support while she navigates a difficult period.
When her savings began running low, she turned to NZF for assistance.
The same organisation she once entrusted with her own Zakat.
With local Zakat support, Farrah was able to ease the pressure of her immediate living expenses while continuing her studies. The assistance provided breathing room during a challenging transition and allowed her to remain focused on securing a more stable future.
For Farrah, Zakat was more than financial assistance.
It was the support she needed to keep moving forward.
Your Zakat. Farrah's Right.
