Painful Truths

September 14, 2022

Did you know that 1 in 6 women have experienced physical or sexual violence from a previous or current partner since the age of 15, according to ABS Stats? This is a staggering statistic, and Jenan is one of the unfortunate women to be amongst this number.

Jenan is a single mother of four beautiful children who was working multiple jobs to care for her family until she got into an accident. The accident was so severe that she lost her jobs and couldn’t make ends meet. Jenan started to overlook her bills, and payments and even struggled to manage basic food needs.

She had a darker past. Before being a single mother of 4, Jenan was happily married to a great husband. But after a while, Jenan like many others became a serious victim of domestic violence. Her husband became increasingly brutal with time and began to initiate beatings.

During that time Jenan not only experienced domestic violence but emotional abuse as well. Because of the trauma and inhumane behavior of her husband, Jenan’s relationship with her children was also impacted immensely.

After the separation, she worked hard to support herself. But after her accident, she had nowhere to go. As a victim of domestic violence, Jenan was assisted by the Healing Forward program. Her trauma was intense and therefore NZF offered her ongoing life coaching counselling sessions and physical coaching sessions for self-esteem.

NZF provided Jenan’s children with teen workshops, they also financially assisted her with our back-to-school program that gives her children the chance to have a brighter future.

Women who are victims of family, domestic, and sexual violence need our help. Your Zakat and Sadaqh contribution can provide them with the support they need to heal and rebuild their lives. Please consider donating to this important cause today.
