Orphaned by War

June 2, 2024

Lara is originally from a war-torn country. She was orphaned at the age of eight, losing her mum, dad, and brother due to the conflict. Seeking safety and a better future, Lara moved to Australia to be under the care of her uncle.

Despite the new environment, Lara doesn't feel entirely safe, as she is uncertain about what tomorrow may bring. Recognising her need for stability and support, her uncle applied to NZF for assistance. After careful assessment, we found Lara to be eligible for our Brighter Futures program.

Through this program, your Zakat supports Lara in various aspects of her life. She receives assistance with her education, attends Quran classes, and participates in extracurricular activities. Additionally, Lara gets help for her mental health from service providers specialised in working with children.

It is your Zakat that has enabled Lara to settle into a new country and receive the help she needs. There are orphans living among us right here in Australia who need our support. It is our collective responsibility to protect and assist them.

All names and places have been changed to protect the identity of clients.
