Why the Beyond Borders program?

It is important to understand the definition: An asylum seeker is someone who claims to be a refugee but whose claim hasn't been evaluated and at times remain in that status for so long as their application is still pending. Whereas, a refugee is a person who was initially an asylum seeker. However, unfortunately neither of these people have it easy. In addition to Refugees and Asylum Seekers there are also people who find themselves in a situation of being displaced in Australia and unable to return to their home country for various socio-economic reasons including safety.

Many people, including the Muslims, believe that such Muslims have no right to be here, and they are ‘taking’ our jobs, etc. This creates even more challenges for these families and individuals. Many spend years in our detention centres, while separated from their loved ones against their choice because of desperation or fleeing war and in search of a better life. Is this how our fellow humans should be treated?

Settling into a new country as a migrant or refugee and taking on a vastly different culture, is a struggle our brothers and sisters have experienced when coming to Australia. Over the years, NZF has supported several Muslim families who have come to this country with the hope of starting a new life. However unfortunately, they are often abandoned without access to essential resources, skills, rights to employment and other basic needs as members of the Australian community even after escaping distressing situations in their home country. Through this program, we at NZF aim to collectively work with our partnerships to raise awareness and provide community support with an end-to-end service to empower our brothers and sisters who are living as new migrant and refugee members of the Muslim community.

Who is this program for?

The Beyond Borders program is designed to support Muslim individuals and families who are settling into Australia as refugees, asylum seekers or any other reason where they are in need of humanitarian assistance and support during this phase of their lives. We hope to help them all grow and succeed together as Muslims in the wider Australian community.

Support provided through this program includes, but is not limited to, access to financial support for essentials and resources, activities to improve the family’s wellbeing, tutoring and mentoring services, counselling sessions for parents and children, access to employment services and skills workshops, and more.

Eligibility & Application process

The application and validation process is done by the NZF Team with confidentiality. Any information given will only be used to determine the best way we can help you.
