Sadaqah
Help implement the third pillar of Islam.
Race towards good deeds!
Sadaqah, or voluntary charity, is an act of generosity given out of personal willingness and sincerity. Unlike Zakat, which is a mandatory pillar of Islam, Sadaqah is a continuous opportunity for Muslims to seek Allah’s (SW) pleasure and earn rewards. It can take many forms, from financial contributions to simple acts of kindness; even a smile or a kind word is considered a form of charity.
The Qur’an and Hadith frequently highlight the immense rewards of giving in Sadaqah. Allah (SWT) reminds us:
“The example of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah is like a seed of grain that sprouts seven ears; in every ear, there are a hundred grains. And Allah multiplies [the reward] for whom He wills. And Allah is All-Encompassing and All-Knowing.” (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:261)
Sadaqah is a means of helping those in need and a way to purify one’s soul and erase sins. The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said:
“Sadaqah extinguishes sin just as water extinguishes fire.” (Tirmidhi)
In another hadith, he (SAW) emphasized:
“Sadaqah extinguishes sin just as water extinguishes fire.” (Tirmidhi)
This hadith means that acts of charity serve as a means of spiritual purification and divine protection from hardships.
Sadaqah can also be given on behalf of loved ones, whether they face hardships, illness, or have passed away. It is a beautiful way to seek Allah’s mercy for them, as the Prophet (SAW) taught that the rewards of charity extend to the giver and the one in whose name it is given. If a family member or a close friend is struggling with illness, giving Sadaqah in their name can bring blessings and prayers from those receiving it.
The importance of Sadaqah in Islam extends beyond material giving. It helps balance the material and spiritual aspects of life. It reminds us that wealth and possessions are temporary and that true success lies in how we use our resources to benefit others. By giving Sadaqah, we cultivate gratitude, humility, and social responsibility.
Supporting the work of NZF through your Sadaqah
When you give Sadaqah to NZF, you are not only helping those in immediate need, but you are also supporting the broader mission of establishing the pillar of Zakat in Australia. A portion of Sadaqah donations may be used towards essential operational costs that enable us to deliver our services effectively and sustainably. These operational efforts are critical in building a thriving, self-sufficient Muslim community here, ensuring that the blessing of Zakat reaches every corner it is meant to touch.
Any Sadaqah used to support NZF’s operations is also a form of Sadaqah Jaariyah, a continuous and ongoing charity. The foundations laid today will, inshaAllah, benefit generations of Muslims to come right here in Australia.
